3D Scanning of Large Statue

High-resolution scanning of a 1.2m statue for digital reproduction and manufacturing.

Clean 3D scanned model of statue prepared for digital reproduction and scaling
Original large statue used as reference for 3D scanning and digital reconstruction
High-resolution mesh detail from 3D scan showing surface geometry of statue

Overview

This project involved the digitisation of a large statue (approximately 1.2 metres tall) to create a high-quality 3D model for reproduction purposes.

The final digital model was intended to support downscaling, 3D printing, and resin casting workflows, preserving the original geometry and fine surface details.

Challenge

Capturing a large physical object with intricate details required multiple scan passes and precise alignment.

Key challenges included:

  • maintaining accuracy across full object height

  • capturing fine surface features

  • ensuring complete geometry coverage

Process

  • High-resolution 3D scanning using infrared technology

  • Multi-angle data capture for full coverage

  • Alignment of multiple scan datasets

  • Mesh clean-up and optimisation

  • Generation of watertight model

Result

A high-quality watertight mesh model was delivered, suitable for:

  • scaling and reproduction

  • 3D printing

  • resin casting

The final output preserved fine details and ensured compatibility with manufacturing workflows.
